Navagraham

Navagraha denotes the nine divine beings that are central to the Vedic Astrology.  They are

1. Suriyan - Sun
2. Chandran - Moon
3. Chevvaai - Mars (also known as Angarahan or Mangal)
4. Budhan - Mercury
5. Guru - Jupiter (also known as Brihaspati)
6. Sukran - Venus
7. Sani - Saturn
8. Rahu - north lunar node
9. Ketu - south lunar node

Since they each preside over a celestial body - five of which are planets, the term navagraha is sometimes incorrectly translated as "nine planets."  Navagrahas have great influence over our lives governing over various aspects such as the good and bad events, health, wealth, occupation, and one's innate tendencies. They administer the benefits or trials based on the good and bad deeds performed by the person in his previous births (karma).  A horoscope (or jathagam, ஜாதகம்) indicates the relative position of the navagrahas at the time of one's birth.

Navagraha Temples -- a cluster of nine temples dedicated to navagrahas, is located in several places in India.  The most popular among these is a cluster of temples that is situated in towns around Kumbakonam, in Tamil Nadu, India.  Though relatively unknown, there is a cluster of navagraha temples located in and around Chennai, in Tamil Nadu, and another cluster of Navagraha temples is situated in towns around Thirunelveli, in Tamil Nadu.

நவகிரகங்கள் – ஒரு அறிமுகம்

சூரியன், சந்திரன், செவ்வாய், புதன், குரு, சுக்ரன், சனி, ராகு, கேது என்பவைதான் நவகிரகங்கள்.  இந்த ஒன்பது கோள்கள்தான் பூமியில் பிறக்கும் ஒவ்வொருவர் வாழ்கையிலும் வரக்கூடிய நன்மை, தீமை, ஆயுள், ஆரோக்கியம், ஐஸ்வர்யம் என்று அனைத்தையும் தீர்மானிக்க கூடிவையாய் அமைகிறது.  இந்த நவக்ரிகங்களோட இருப்பிடம், அதாவது ஸ்தானம், ஒவ்வொருவர் பிறக்கும் போதும் எந்தெந்த மாதிரி இருக்கின்றது என்பதை வைத்துதான் ஜனன ஜாதகம் கணிக்கப்படுகிறது.

மனிதனுடைய ஒவ்வொரு செயலும் அசைவும் நவகிரகங்களின் ஆட்சிக்கு உட்பட்டே நடை பெறுகின்றன.  கிரகம் என்றால் கிரகித்து கொள்ளுதல் என்று பொருள்.  மனித வாழ்வில் ஏற்படக்குடிய சுக துக்கங்களை கிரகித்துக் கொள்ளக் கூடியவை இந்த நவக்ரிகங்கள்.  மனிதனின் முன் ஜென்மத்தில் செய்யும் பவ புண்ணியங்களின் பலன்களை அனுசரித்து அதற்க்குரிய பலபலாங்களைத் தசாபுத்திகள் நடை பெறும் காலத்தில் இந்த க்ரிகங்கள் கொடுத்து வருகின்றன.  நவகிரகங்கள் இறைவனிடமிருந்து அருளை கிரகித்து நமக்கு தருகின்றன.  கிரகங்களை வழிபடுவதன் மூலம் நமது துன்பங்கள் நீங்கி இறைவன் அருள் பெற்று சீரும் சிறப்புமாக வாழலாம்.
